The woman carrying my husband’s baby walked into our anniversary dinner wearing my earrings.
Not the same kind. Mine.
The little pear-shaped diamonds Malik bought me after his first sold-out tour. The ones I had searched for three weeks earlier while he stood in our bedroom telling me I was always misplacing things.
Sloane stopped between the dessert table and the photographer. Her green dress skimmed her stomach. She had one hand resting there, although there wasn’t much to see yet.
My mother noticed the earrings before she noticed the hand.
“Nia,” she said quietly. “Who is that?”
Across the room, Malik set down his champagne.
His manager, Dre, moved toward the security guard by the door. Neither of them looked surprised enough.
